Give Your Grass The Nutrients it Needs
Just like people need food to grow and stay healthy, grass needs a set of essential nutrients to grow properly. The three main macronutrients for plants are nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium — these are some of the most important nutrients for grass. If your grass doesn’t have enough of these nutrients, it will be weak, lack colour and thickness, and will generally be less healthy.
The good news is that you can grow rich, healthy grass by adding some fertilizer on a regular schedule. Zander Sod offers a fertilizer mix for every season!
Types of Fertilizer
Spring/Summer 25-5-10
- Use product every 6-8 weeks during the growing season
- High in nitrogen to get the plant growing out of dormancy and encourage spring greening
- Phosphorus to promote some root growth in spring
- Potassium to strengthen the plant coming out of winter and through summer stress (e.g. heat waves and droughts)
- Maintenance balanced fertilizer (5:1:2), great for summer
- This product contains 50% slow release nitrogen, meaning that half is used quickly and half slowly to encourage quick results, then steady feeding without a flush of growth
- Application rate: 1kg covers 540 Square Feet
Note: All fertilizer is available in 4kg, 10kg, and 25kg bags.
Starter 8-32-16
- Use product every 6-8 weeks during the growing season
- Nitrogen to promote foundational components (amino acids, proteins), leaf development, energy storage and use, density, and colour
- High in phosphorus to help facilitate root growth and seedling development
- Potassium to promote strong cell structure and help with root development
- This product should be used just prior to or shortly after seeding or sodding
- Application rate: 1kg covers 438 Square Feet
Note: All fertilizer is available in 4kg, 10kg, and 25kg bags.
Fall 20-5-20
- Use product in early fall after the heat of the season and/or late fall after the grass stops growing but is still green
- High in nitrogen to increase growth after long, hot summer, promotes carbohydrate storage in preparation for winter, and aids in spring greening
- Some phosphorus to encourage root growth after depletion from the summer
- High in potassium to help strengthen the plant by thickening the cell wall to prepare it for winter
- This product contains 40% slow-release nitrogen, meaning that 60% is used quickly and 40% slowly to encourage quick results, then steady feeding without a flush of growth
- Application rate: 1kg covers 438 Square Feet
Note: All fertilizer is available in 4kg, 10kg, and 25kg bags.
